The geospatial location of the artisan´s cabin, determines in form and function the way how to inhabit it. Climate, social relations, temperature, solar radiation, relative humidity, vegetation… are understood as a cluster of modifiable parameters ranging from the minimal life space in to the optimal workshop area, going through communal spaces, leisure or even material storage.
The cabin becomes a compact element that is added to a limit: a potential space that generates the first meeting point. The cabin meets the creative concerns of the craftsmen: functional, constructive and aesthetic values. Hence the artisan becomes an enigmatic agent that lives in the community but needs an isolated space to produce handcraft products.
The project understands the hermetic quality of the working spaces but at the same time introduces production and commercialization.
The project is thought as a “third urban nature”. Therefore, we need to rethink the building as a public element to be held in a cultural level. It is a community that is focused on technology and research of new materials. It is a working platform that shows the different moments of creation, letting professionals taking part of the process. It is a place to re-think new forms of production linked to tradition.
The project reaches different participation channels through the design, and a common space where interaction with various agents can generate new connections and open new lines of work to return the invested effort to the city.
It is a laboratory where unexpected moments happen; a place to experience and a space that takes the idea of playing as the basis of experimentation.
